LaCAN Leader Region 2

The Louisiana Developmental Disabilities Council is accepting applications for the Louisiana Citizens for Action Now (LaCAN) Leader position for Region 2 (Ascension, East & West Baton Rouge, East & West Feliciana, Iberville, & Pointe Coupee Parishes).  The position is based out of Families Helping Families of Greater Baton Rouge. 

The LaCAN Leader will maintain contact with their regional LaCAN team and recruit additional members. In addition, the Leader will focus on retention and engagement of LaCAN members in order to increase the size and activity level of the network. The Leader will assist their members in developing relationships with their legislators, prepare them to carry out action alerts, and support them in their legislative advocacy. The Leader will make LaCAN presentations to recruit new members and conduct various legislative advocacy events for members.

Applicants must have:

  • excellent oral and written communication skills
  • excellent organizational skills
  • public speaking experience
  • (paid or non-paid) experience working/advocating with the legislature
  • an unwavering belief that ALL people with disabilities, regardless of the severity of the disability, can and should live in their own home in the community with appropriate supports
  • an unwavering belief that the segregation of people with disabilities is wrong
